SUSTAINABLE ORGANISATIONS AND EVENTS IN SPORT

Welcome to the official website of the 3rd Sustainable Sports Symposium!

From July 1-3, 2025, the Faculty of Sport Science is hosting the 3rd Sustainable Sports Symposium of the think tank Denkfabrik sportainable with the main topic ‘Sustainable organisations and events in sport’.

Events are at the heart of sport. This is where athletes train and present their performance, where people meet to watch the athletes, where fans are inspired. Behind the scenes, often hidden from view, are the people who make the events possible in the first place: volunteer and professional officials whose concrete activities form what we refer to in abstract terms as organisations. In this complex context, the claim of sustainable development can encounter individual reservations and structural barriers or be realised in impressive commitment and creative solutions.

In addition to invited keynotes, the programme will consist of short presentations and workshops. A science slam and an interactive exchange format (open space) are also planned.

myclimate

The 3rd Sustainable Sports Symposium is cooperating with myclimate. We calculate the emissions of the symposium, try to reduce the CO2 footprint in all areas of the symposium and thus make a contribution to climate protection. At the 1st Sustainable Sport Symposium in Bayreuth 2023, a result of 68 kg CO2 per participant was recorded. This corresponds to a financial equivalent of approx. 1.56 € per participant. Therefore, each participant of the symposium in Leipzig can make an additional contribution of €2.00 to the conference fee when registering to offset their personal carbon footprint. The additional amount collected in this way will be donated to myclimate climate protection projects in Africa, Asia and Latin America.
